How to Enjoy Swansea and the Gower Coast

Worms Head
My blog this week is going to be a step by step guide on how to enjoy and get the most out of a visit to the world renowned Gower Peninsula. I will be covering topics such as location,  the range of hotels available, the types of activities you can try, the variety of restaurants in the area and the latest news. First of all though, where are Swansea and the Gower Peninsula?

How to find it?

Swansea is located in south west Wales just off the M4, an hour from Cardiff.  The Gower Peninsula continues further west from Swansea and is a 19 mile long stretch of beautiful beaches from the headland at Mumbles westwards. Did you know the Gower Peninsula was Britain's first designated area of outstanding natural beauty? This must be worth a visit!

How to select the right accommodation?

Accommodation in the area ranges from camping sites for caravans and tents to B+Bs and hotels to suit all budgets. Some hotels will even take in your pets! Your choice of accommodation will depend on the type of holiday you want. If you’re looking for a surfing holiday, choose accommodation close to the fabulous beach of Llangennith for example, the Kings Head Hotel would be an ideal choice. Or if it’s a restful holiday you want with miles of beautiful coastline to explore, choose a hotel in Rhossili. If you’re looking for a city hotel, The Dragon Hotel or the Marriot, both in the heart of Swansea would be an ideal base from which to enjoy the area.

The Dragon Hotel
Swansea itself is of course home to Swansea City footballclub and the Ospreys regional rugby team. A visit to the Liberty Stadium would be a must! The town centre offers many shopping experiences from big high street names such as River Island and Next to local specialist shops. For those wanting to see what Swansea has to offer after dark, a visit to Wind St is essential! There are many pubs, bars and a casino that offer a great night out. I'm writing from experience!

Out of town, visitors to Swansea Bay and the Gower have always enjoyed exceptional walking experiences and more recently mountain biking and surfing have also grown in popularity. But the area has much more to offer than this….Have you tried sailing, kite surfing, or endurance sports? All of these are available to visitors along with more traditional activities such as climbing, fishing and golf. The LC2 centre can offer a whole range of activites for young and old such as, yoga, the water park, rock climbing, aerobics and many more.

How to select the best places to eat?

Many of Swansea’s restaurants and pubs pride themselves on using locally sourced produce. The types of restaurants available range from cafés serving traditional welsh cakes and bara brith to sea food restaurants along the bay. The possibilities are endless.

The above details provide advice on how to get the most from and enjoy a visit to Swansea and the surrounding location of the Gower Peninsula. This is only a taste of what’s on offer, visit to find out more….
