The iPad 3

Today Friday 16th March 2012 has seen the launch of the iPad 3 by Apple. I thought my readers might be interested in the product so I have completed a short review of the background, cost, spec, new features and apps.

Background

Incase any of you are unsure, the iPad 3 is made by Apple and is a tablet computer. It mainly functions as a device for  audio-visual media, including books, movies, music, games and web content. Apple are suggesting that the computer industry is moving into a post PC world and the iPad 3 is central to this.

Cost

To purchase the product would cost you anything between £399 and £799 depending on the spec. Briefly prices are as follows:

iPad 3 including Wi-Fi
16GB price £399
32GB price £479
64GB price £599

The cost increases:
Ipad 3 including Wi - Fi plus 4g
16GB price £499
32GB price £579
64GB price £679
The new specs include:

  • 1.2GHz dual-core A57CPU
  • 1MB RAM
  • Front, Rear, and Side Cameras, front is 1080p, rear is 1080p, side is VGA

  • New Features

Obviously the processor is faster and the RAM is bigger than the iPad 2. The new camera allows you to take and view your photos in 3D. The camera has been upgraded from 1-megapixels to 5-megapixels and includes touch focus, image stabalisation and face detection features. Photos are quick to take and store and images are easily viewed. The screen is brighter and whereas, when studying closely the screen of the iPad 2, pixels are obviously visible this isn't the case with the new model. There has been much hype about the new voice dictation feature which translates your voice into typed words. A new securtiy feature is a retina eye scan. This allows the owner to set the tablet so that they have sole use of the product. Amazingly, retina control allows the operator to use some features of the tablet without touching it.

    Apps
With the latest apps such as iPhoto and iMovie, for the iPad 3, you can make movies, edit your images all with a touch of your finger. Imagine taking photographs of the beautiful Welsh scenary with your new iPad 3. Alternitively you could make a short movie about your visit to Wales. Travel apps allow you to plan your visit to Wales, social networking apps let you keep in touch with your close friends while you are away and with the news apps you will have local and international news at your finger tips.

    What the people are saying?
The reviews of the product have been mixed. Some people don't like the fact that the new iPad is slightly heavier and thicker. Apple however have said that customer response to the product has been 'off the scale'.

Reviewing the product hasn't really converted me to the benfits of Apple technology. However, I'm sure fans of the iPad 2 will be eager to update to the latest model. I hope my review has kept you informed.
